The Role

Poppy is looking for a Trade Sales Account Executive to develop and grow relationships with interior designers, architects, specifiers, and design firms, with a particular focus on commercial interiors and high-end residential projects.

This is a remote, relationship-driven sales role focused on proactive outreach, account development, and revenue growth. The Account Executive will work across existing trade relationships, qualified opportunities, dormant accounts, and selected new firms, with the goal of identifying active projects, staying close to customers throughout the specification process, and creating more opportunities for Poppy to be considered and purchased.

The Account Executive will own follow-up for qualified opportunities generated through Poppy's partner pipelines and maintain accurate information in our CRM and job pipeline. They will proactively engage designers and firms, uncover active commercial and residential projects, follow up on samples and specifications, reactivate dormant accounts, and build deeper relationships with Poppy's highest-potential customers.

The emphasis of the position is sales and relationship building rather than order administration. Poppy's customer account management team will handle quote preparation, sample order entry, order processing, and other transactional support so the Account Executive can remain focused on outreach, relationship development, project progression, and revenue growth.

We are focused on finding the strongest candidate in one of the following markets:

  • New York
  • Dallas–Fort Worth
  • Los Angeles
  • San Francisco Bay Area
  • Phoenix / Scottsdale

Most of the role will be conducted by phone, email, and video. In-person activity will primarily take place within the Account Executive's local market through client meetings, presentations, firm visits, and relevant industry events. Occasional national travel may also be required for a major trade show or company event, generally no more than once per year.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone with several years of experience in relationship-driven sales within the interior design, architecture, furnishings, architectural products, or broader design-trade industry.

Experience working with commercial design and specification projects is especially relevant, including hospitality, workplace, multifamily, education, and other contract interiors. Familiarity with high-end residential design is also important.

The right person will be polished, organized, persistent, and comfortable developing relationships with both independent designers and larger architecture and design firms. They should be confident initiating conversations, asking about active projects and specifications, following up consistently, and asking for the business when the opportunity is there.

This person should understand that design-industry sales are often built over long project cycles and repeated interactions. Strong candidates will know how to stay engaged without becoming transactional, recognize which accounts deserve deeper attention, and develop relationships that produce repeat business over time.

Strong CRM and pipeline discipline are also important. The Account Executive should be able to manage a meaningful number of accounts and opportunities while maintaining clear notes, next steps, follow-up dates, and project status.

We are not looking for a high-volume transactional salesperson whose approach is built primarily around cold calling. We are looking for someone who understands relationship-based selling, enjoys the design community, and is motivated by measurable revenue growth.

How Success Will Be Measured

Success in this role will ultimately be measured by revenue growth across assigned accounts and opportunities.

We will also look at the development and progression of the sales pipeline, conversion of qualified opportunities into active projects and orders, reactivation of dormant accounts, development of new trade relationships, growth within existing accounts, and consistent CRM and project-pipeline management.

The objective is straightforward: build strong relationships with the design community, uncover more commercial and high-end residential projects, and create more opportunities for Poppy to be specified and purchased.
